Köthen (Anhalt): Admission Restriction - Numerus Clausus/NC (2026/27)

Köthen (Anhalt) offers international students a distinctive educational experience at the local campus of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, specialising in information technology, design, and healthcare management—fields where the intimate learning environment, small class sizes, and close relationships with professors create genuine mentorship that larger institutions rarely provide. This historic town in Saxony-Anhalt carries cultural significance that belies its modest size: Johann Sebastian Bach served as court composer here for six years, creating some of his most celebrated works including the Brandenburg Concertos, while Samuel Hahnemann developed the principles of homeopathy in the same streets, leaving a legacy that still draws visitors and practitioners from around the world. The beautifully preserved historic centre, anchored by the impressive Köthen Castle complex where Bach once worked, creates an inspiring backdrop for daily life and authentic immersion in eastern German culture without tourist crowds. The university's innovative design programmes and strong focus on digital technologies attract students seeking specialised expertise in creative and technical fields, while living costs rank among the lowest of any German university town—allowing students to live comfortably and focus fully on their studies without financial strain.
