Mittweida: International Programs with Admission Restriction — Numerus Clausus/NC (2026/27)

Mittweida offers international students a distinctive educational experience at Hochschule Mittweida, a university of applied sciences with unusual research depth, specialising in media technology, laser and photonics engineering, and renewable energy—fields where cutting-edge facilities like the Laser Application Center and modern Media Forum provide hands-on experience with equipment and projects that many larger universities cannot match. This charming small town in Saxony punches well above its weight academically, with a strong research orientation that creates opportunities for practical scientific work even at undergraduate levels, giving students genuine laboratory experience and technical expertise that translate directly into career readiness. The intimate campus atmosphere means close relationships with professors who know students by name, while dedicated international support services and a welcoming community help newcomers from abroad settle in quickly despite the smaller-town setting. Living costs rank among the lowest of any German university location, allowing students to focus entirely on their studies without financial strain while experiencing authentic eastern German culture far removed from tourist centres—local traditions, regional festivals, and a genuine Saxon community become part of daily life.
