Kursbeschreibung
The joint master’s degree in Regional Studies Eastern and Central Europe (ROME) comprises the compulsory subject Eastern and Central European Studies, which is studied with a Russian or Polish focus, and one of the obligatory elective subjects Economics, Social Sciences, or Law with Eastern European Law. The two-year multidisciplinary master’s program deepens and expands the knowledge and skills acquired in the bachelor’s degree. As a highly applied degree program, it aims to combine an economic, social studies, or legal profile with the linguistic, cultural, and historical skills required in an internationalized professional world. At the same time, the examination of the humanities-related context provides the basis for a deeper understanding of cultural characteristics, historical contexts, and societal developments in the region.
Key areas of research for “ROME” in Cologne:
- Reception of antiquity in Slavic cultures,
- Jewish literature of Central and Eastern Europe,
- Rhetoric,
- The workshop of the Slavic poets,
- Verb semantics,
- Grapholinguistics,
- Sociolinguistics,
- Phonology.
