Study Digital Humanities in Germany (2026/27)

Overview Deadlines

Digital Humanities programs in Germany offer international students the unique opportunity to bridge Europe’s centuries-old cultural heritage with cutting-edge computational methods, with leading institutions such as the University of Cologne’s Computational Humanities Center, Humboldt University Berlin, and Leipzig University providing pioneering English-taught programs that combine traditional humanities scholarship with technical expertise in natural language processing, network analysis, text mining, and spatiotemporal modeling. Students gain hands-on experience working with Germany’s unparalleled digitized archives, research infrastructures like DARIAH-DE, and large-scale cultural datasets, transforming historical sources into computationally analyzable resources while also critically reflecting on the ethical and cultural implications of technology. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in cultural heritage digitization, museum technologies, digital publishing, and research data management, entering a job market with starting salaries of €42,000–€55,000 and strong demand for interdisciplinary expertise.

Numerus Clausus (Admission Restriction)

For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
