Family Studies in Germany
Germanyās Family Studies programs offer international students a unique opportunity to understand and support families in the midst of social transformation, in a country where structures range from multi-generational households to patchwork and same-sex families, all within the framework of Europeās most comprehensive family support system. These interdisciplinary, English-taught degrees examine families through diverse perspectives, exploring topics such as the effects of Germanyās parental leave policies on child development, intergenerational trauma among refugee families, demographic challenges linked to elder care, and the impact of digitalization on family communication. Germanyās social and cultural diversity provides a rich learning environment, from contrasts between Bavariaās traditional values and Berlinās diverse family forms, to Turkish-German families navigating bicultural identities, and persistent EastāWest differences in gender roles.
