International Development Numerus Clausus

International Development Programs in Germany with Admission Restriction - Numerus Clausus/NC (2026/27)

Overview Deadlines

International Development programs in Germany equip international students with the knowledge and skills to address global challenges such as poverty reduction, sustainable economic growth, climate change adaptation, and social equity—studying in a country recognized for its strong commitment to international cooperation and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Offered largely in English, these programs combine theoretical foundations in economics, political science, sociology, and environmental studies with practical tools in project management, policy analysis, and impact evaluation. Students benefit from Germany’s extensive network of development agencies, NGOs, and international organizations—such as GIZ, KfW Development Bank, and the United Nations offices in Bonn—through internships, field projects, and research collaborations.

Most Selective International Development Programs

For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
