The Hochschule fĂŒr Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig (HGB), founded in 1764 and known in English as the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts, is one of Europe’s oldest art academies and is located in Leipzig, Germany; with around 600 students, it offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Book Art/Graphic Design, Photography, Painting/Graphics, and Media Art, as well as the unique Master’s in Cultures of the Curatorial. Its public library comprises about 65,000 volumes and over 80 current periodicals on painting, graphic design, book art, photography, and new media art, including special collections of artists’ books, rare prints, and historical photography literature. Notable alumni include Neo Rauch of the New Leipzig School, and the HGB is deeply engaged with Leipzig’s art and design scene through exhibitions, workshops, and collaborations with institutions such as the Leipzig Gallery of Contemporary Art and the Halle 14 Library, while also supporting Ukrainian students and artists as part of its commitment to an inclusive and international artistic community.
