About the University

The Deutsche Welle Akademie, also known as DW Akademie, is the international center for media development, media consulting and journalism training of Deutsche Welle, Germany's international broadcaster. Founded in 1965, DW Akademie offers a unique blend of practical media training and academic education, focusing on media and development, journalism, communication and digital technology.

One of the flagship programs of DW Akademie is the bilingual Master's Program in International Media Studies (IMS), offered in collaboration with the University of Bonn and the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. This full-time, four-semester program is taught in English and attracts young journalists and media professionals from around the world. The IMS program has been accredited by the Agency for Quality Assurance through Accreditation of Study Programs (AQAS).

DW Akademie is headquartered in Bonn, Germany, with additional offices in Berlin. The Bonn location benefits from its proximity to Deutsche Welle's main offices and studios, providing students with opportunities for hands-on learning and networking with media professionals.

In addition to the IMS Master's program, DW Akademie offers a wide range of specialised training programs, workshops and consulting services for media professionals, organisations and universities worldwide. These programs cover topics such as digital journalism, media and information literacy, media management, and media development in conflict-sensitive environments.

DW Akademie's commitment to international media development is reflected in its diverse student body and faculty, as well as its extensive network of partner organisations around the globe. Through its programs and initiatives, DW Akademie aims to promote quality journalism, media freedom and access to information as key drivers of sustainable development and democracy worldwide.
