DIT has a main campus in Deggendorf and eight additional technology campuses throughout eastern Bavaria. Located in Deggendorf, a town of 38,000 on the Danube River approximately 150 kilometers from Munich and 30 kilometers from the Austrian border, DIT operates in a small-town setting. Living costs are around €600–750 per month, but urban amenities are limited. A car or patience with regional transportation is required to access larger cities. DIT has grown rapidly, expanding from 1,000 to 9,000 students in 25 years. The university offers English-taught bachelor's and master's programs in international management, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, attracting students from over 100 countries. However, this rapid growth has put a strain on the infrastructure, resulting in ongoing construction and the use of temporary facilities at some campus locations. The European Campus Rottal-Inn, an institution within DIT, focuses on health sciences and medical informatics. Its specialized programs in renewable energy and medical technology align with Bavaria's industrial priorities and provide internship opportunities with regional SMEs. However, there are fewer opportunities with multinational corporations than in Munich or Nuremberg. The small Bavarian town's proximity to the Bavarian Forest provides outdoor recreational opportunities and a chance to immerse oneself in traditional German culture. However, international students may find the conservative, rural environment and limited English usage outside the campus challenging compared to metropolitan universities. Therefore, DIT is most suitable for those who prioritize affordable living costs, English-taught programs, and smaller academic communities over urban diversity and career networking opportunities.
