Its nine thousand students are distributed across three campuses in Sankt Augustin, Rheinbach, and Hennef. These campuses are located between Bonn and Cologne in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The university offers approximately 35 bachelor's and master's programs in computer science, engineering, natural sciences, business administration, and social policy. Distinctive programs include Technical Journalism, Bionics (combining biology and engineering), International Media Studies, and NGO Management, which are rarely found at other German universities. Due to its multi-campus structure, attention to program location is required. Sankt Augustin hosts computer science and business programs, Rheinbach focuses on natural sciences and economics, and Hennef houses social security studies. All locations are 20-30 minutes from Bonn or Cologne by regional train and provide access to major city amenities while maintaining suburban campus environments with lower housing costs ranging from €400 to €600 per month. Most bachelor's programs require B2-C1 German proficiency, though several master's programs are taught in English, including those in autonomous systems, biomedical sciences, and CSR & NGO management. The extensive language center offers 25 languages and supports international integration and career preparation. As a relatively young institution in the economically strong Rhine region, between Germany's former capital, Bonn, and the media hub, Cologne, H-BRS provides internship opportunities with regional companies, government agencies, and international organizations, including UN agencies in Bonn. However, lacking the prestige of older universities, it may require graduates to demonstrate their competencies through practical experience. This makes H-BRS suitable for students seeking an affordable, applied education with good transportation links to two major cities, who can accept a commuter campus experience rather than a concentrated student town atmosphere.
