Top Programs English-taught (18) International Programs (18) Tuition-free (61) Deadlines

Cottbus offers international students a distinctive educational experience at Brandenburg Technical University (BTU), specialising in energy engineering, environmental sciences, and sustainable architecture—fields where the university's research orientation and the region's real-world context create learning opportunities found nowhere else in Germany. The nearby post-mining landscapes of Lusatia serve as living laboratories for environmental regeneration studies, giving students hands-on involvement in one of Europe's most ambitious ecological restoration projects while building specialised expertise in renewable energy and reclamation technologies with growing global relevance. The multicultural campus includes dedicated support for international students, numerous English-taught programmes, and a welcoming community that helps newcomers settle in quickly despite the smaller-city setting. Living costs rank among the lowest of any German university city, allowing students to live comfortably on modest budgets while experiencing authentic eastern German culture away from tourist centres.

Most Selective Study Programs in Cottbus

For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
