Catholic Theology is an academic discipline that explores the doctrines, traditions, and beliefs of the Catholic Church through systematic study and critical analysis. Students engage with both historical and contemporary theological perspectives, examining sacred texts like the Bible, papal documents, and writings of Church Fathers and saints. The curriculum typically covers fundamental areas including Systematic Theology (exploring core doctrines like the Trinity and Christology), Moral Theology (examining ethical principles and their application), Biblical Studies (analyzing Old and New Testament texts), Liturgical Theology (studying worship and sacraments), and Church History (tracing the development of Catholic thought and practice through time).

Advanced study often incorporates elements of philosophy, particularly scholastic thought from figures like Thomas Aquinas, while also engaging with modern theological developments following the Second Vatican Council.

Students learn to apply theological principles to contemporary issues, developing skills in hermeneutics, critical thinking, and pastoral application. Research in Catholic Theology requires proficiency in several languages, including Latin, Greek, and modern languages, as many primary sources and significant theological works are written in these languages. The field maintains a balance between preserving traditional Catholic teaching and engaging with contemporary theological questions and interfaith dialogue.
