Islamic Art History International Programs in Germany: Application Deadlines (2026/27)

Islamic Art History programs in Germany position international students at the intersection of artistic excellence and cultural understanding, offering access to world-class collections and pioneering research in a country that houses treasures from Berlin’s Museum Island to rare manuscript libraries. These English-taught degrees examine fourteen centuries of artistic production across regions from Andalusia to Mughal India, exploring geometric ornamentation, illuminated manuscripts, Silk Road ceramics, mosque architecture, and contemporary Islamic art that negotiates tradition and modernity. Students gain interdisciplinary expertise in Arabic or Persian, architectural history, material culture, digital humanities, and postcolonial theory while working directly with Germany’s remarkable holdings such as the Pergamon Museum’s reconstructed monuments, illuminated Qurans, and decorative arts from Cairo to Samarkand.
