The University of Erfurt is a public university located in the historic city of Erfurt, the capital of the German state of Thuringia. Founded in 1379, it is one of Germany’s oldest universities, yet following its closure in 1816 and reopening in 1994, it also ranks among the country’s youngest modern institutions. Today, the university is home to approximately 6,000 students and offers a highly personal learning environment. Its centrally located campus combines modern teaching facilities with historic architecture, set within a city celebrated for its medieval landmarks such as Erfurt Cathedral and the famous Krämerbrücke bridge.
