The German University in Cairo (GUC) is an Egyptian private university founded by the presidential decree 27/2002, according to the law 101/1992 and its executive regulations 355/1996.

With the establishment of its Berlin branch in October 2012, according to article 124a of the Berlin Higher Education Act, the GU) aims to create a place for German-Egyptian encounters and a hub for international academic, scientific, and cultural exchange. Students studying at the GUC Berlin Branch will be able to study in English in Berlin, Germany where they will not only be able to pursue their academic careers but also gain valuable life experience through their stay in the German capital. All courses taught at the Berlin branch are an integral part of the courses offered at the home university.
