The university is located in Cologne's Müngersdorf district. In addition to this test, standard academic requirements must be met. DSHS is located adjacent to the RheinEnergieStadion and features Olympic-standard facilities, including biomechanics labs, swimming pools, athletics tracks, and high-performance training centers. This provides unparalleled sports infrastructure, though the specialized focus means there is limited academic diversity compared to comprehensive universities. Programs are primarily taught in German, requiring B2-C1 proficiency for bachelor's degrees. Some English-taught master's programs in areas such as sports technology and Olympic studies attract international athletes and coaches. The university's research excellence in elite sports, exercise physiology, and sports technology creates pathways to careers in professional sports organizations, sports medicine, fitness industry management, and sports media. Alumni include Olympic athletes, Bundesliga coaches, and sports industry executives; however, career prospects are limited to sports-related fields. DSHS is located in Cologne, a city of 1.1 million residents with living costs averaging €800–1,100 per month. Students have access to the cultural offerings of Germany's fourth-largest city while enjoying a unique campus culture of athletes and sports enthusiasts. This makes DSHS ideal for those committed to sports careers rather than those seeking broad academic exploration or uncertain about specializing exclusively in sports sciences.
