About the University
The Hochschule Bielefeld - University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSBI), formerly known as Fachhochschule Bielefeld until 18 April 2023, is a public university of applied sciences founded in 1971. With approximately 10,500 students, it is one of the first Fachhochschulen to be founded in Germany during the first wave of Fachhochschulen. HSBI has three campuses in Bielefeld, Minden and Gütersloh, offering a diverse educational experience in different settings.
The university offers a wide range of academic programmes in various disciplines including design, engineering and mathematics, social sciences, business and health. HSBI is known for its strong focus on application-oriented teaching and research and maintains close links with industrial, business, social, cultural and health institutions in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region. This collaboration enables students to undertake practical projects, internships and dissertations in companies, enhancing their practical experience and employability.
In addition to traditional full-time programmes, HSBI offers flexible study models such as work-integrated courses and part-time courses, allowing students to combine their education with work commitments. The university also offers excellent learning facilities, including well-equipped libraries, study centres and modern infrastructure.
HSBI has been system accredited by the Accreditation Council in 2023, demonstrating its commitment to continuous improvement and quality assurance in teaching and learning.
