The International University of Applied Sciences Liebenzell is a denominational university. In her work, she is particularly committed to the heritage of Württemberg Pietism and world missions due to the history of the Liebenzeller Mission. Only the Holy Scriptures, the early church and Reformation creeds * are authoritative for their commitment to the creed.

The following principles and values ​​result from this commitment to scripture and confession of the IHL:

The IHL is committed to Holy Scripture as “a true, certain preaching of the Holy Spirit” (Confessio Virtembergica 1552, Art. 27) and as the basis of all Christian theology. For this reason, the IHL also takes into account the revelation claim of the Holy Scriptures when dealing with the texts scientifically.

The IHL is committed to the basic reformatory decisions sola scriptura, solus Christus, sola fide and sola gratia.

The IHL is committed to the mission of Jesus Christ according to Mt 28:18ff. committed and therefore places a special focus on missiology training and research as part of the theological studies.

The IHL is committed to a holistic theological education in the sense of a faith, life and learning community of the students.

The IHL is committed to scientific freedom and is committed to the freedom of research and teaching anchored in the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany (GG §5, Para. 3).

The aim of the IHL is to provide students with theological, missionary, human and social science competence through a scientifically demanding education with a particularly practical and application-oriented focus. An indispensable part of the training is therefore the scientific reflection of theological, societal, social and cultural developments in Europe and worldwide. In particular, research into intercultural and inter-religious communication bases is of outstanding importance.

In addition to academic work and training, the IHL strives for holistic personal development of the students, which enables them to engage in different work and communication situations with self-confidence and reflection, and to pass on the gospel of Jesus Christ in a theologically responsible and credible manner.

The IHL is supported by the Liebenzeller Mission non-profit GmbH. With more than 110 years of work in numerous countries on five continents and the close connection to the regional church community work of the Liebenzeller community association (LGV), the southern German community association (SV), the Starkenburger community association (StGV) and the youth work of the Southwest German EC association, the students are with the appropriate suitability, a wide range of professional opportunities and chances open.

This preamble describes the essence of the IHL. This can only be changed by the IHL Senate in mutual agreement with the institution.
