The Ukrainian Free University (UFU) was established in Vienna on 17 January 1921.â The idea to organize a Ukrainian university-in-exile came from Ukrainian academics, some of whom had held chairs at universities in the Russian and Austro-Hungarian Empires. The UFU was transferred to Prague, Czechoslovakia, in the fall of 1921. The host government granted the UFU full academic accreditation and provided the university with financial support.

Numerus Clausus (Admission Restriction)
For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
