The Friedrich-Alexander-UniversitĂ€t Erlangen-NĂŒrnberg (FAU), established in 1743, is Bavaria's second-largest university. It has 40,000 students, who are distributed between the Erlangen campus, which has 113,000 residents and houses the technical and medical faculties, and the Nuremberg campus, which has 520,000 residents and houses the faculties of economics, social sciences, and education. Numerus Clausus (Admission Restriction)
For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
