The Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg (also known as the University of Bamberg) was founded in 1647 and re-established in its present form in 1972. Its roots lie in the Academia Bambergensis, founded in the 17th century by Prince-Bishop Melchior Otto. The university has four faculties: Humanities and Cultural Studies, Social and Economic Sciences, Human Sciences and Business Informatics and Applied Computer Science. Numerus Clausus (Admission Restriction)

For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
