The Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg (also known as the University of Bamberg) was founded in 1647 and re-established in its present form in 1972. Its roots lie in the Academia Bambergensis, founded in the 17th century by Prince-Bishop Melchior Otto. The university has four faculties: Humanities and Cultural Studies, Social and Economic Sciences, Human Sciences and Business Informatics and Applied Computer Science.
