Emden: International Programs with Admission Restriction — Numerus Clausus/NC (2026/27)

Emden offers international students a distinctive educational experience at its University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule Emden/Leer), specialising in maritime sciences, renewable energy technology, and business management—fields where this historic North Sea port connects centuries of seafaring tradition with cutting-edge green innovation. The university's practical approach defines the experience: harbour facilities, research vessels, and the surrounding East Frisian coast serve as living laboratories for coastal management, logistics, and offshore wind energy studies that put classroom theory into immediate practice. The intimate campus atmosphere fosters close relationships with professors and a collaborative learning environment, while strong international partnerships and dedicated support services help students from abroad settle in quickly. Emden itself offers a compelling blend of maritime heritage and forward-looking sustainability—the historic harbour, excellent maritime museum, and innovative energy projects along the coast create a unique backdrop for studies, while the relaxed, bicycle-friendly town centre keeps daily life simple and affordable compared to larger German cities.
