Bremen: International Programs with Admission Restriction — Numerus Clausus/NC (2026/27)

Bremen offers international students a relaxed yet cosmopolitan experience in a historic Hanseatic city that blends maritime tradition with modern creativity and an independent spirit found nowhere else in Germany. As the country's smallest federal state, Bremen has centuries of self-governance behind it, and that distinct local identity shows in a down-to-earth atmosphere refreshingly different from larger German metropolises. The University of Bremen, known for marine sciences, physics, and social sciences, anchors an academic community of around 30,000 students and maintains strong research ties to institutions like the Alfred Wegener Institute and the nearby German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence. The compact, bike-friendly layout makes everyday life effortless—the UNESCO-listed town hall and Roland statue, the bohemian Viertel quarter with its cafés, vintage shops, and street art, and the green riverfront spaces along the Weser all sit within easy cycling distance of each other.
