Study China Studies in Germany (2026/27)

Overview Deadlines

Germany is an excellent place for international students to study China Studies: its universities have a long and respected tradition in Sinology and East Asian Studies, offering intensive language training alongside interdisciplinary courses in subjects such as history, politics, economics and culture. Many public institutions charge little to no tuition fees and are increasingly offering programmes taught in English, making top-tier education more affordable. You will also find rich resources in libraries, research institutes and China-focused centres, as well as access to visiting scholars and conferences.

Numerus Clausus (Admission Restriction)

For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
