Study Coptology in Germany (2026/27)

Overview Deadlines

Germany provides an exceptional environment for the study of Coptology, offering students access to one of the world's most prestigious centers for Coptic studies and early Christian Egyptian research. At German universities, you'll explore the rich heritage of Coptic language, literature, and culture while studying in institutions that house significant collections of Coptic manuscripts and artifacts. The program combines intensive language training in Coptic with a comprehensive study of Egyptian Christianity, allowing students to work with ancient texts and archaeological materials while learning from scholars who maintain strong ties to research centers in Egypt and around the world.

Numerus Clausus (Admission Restriction)

For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
