Social Policy: Top International Study Programs in Germany (2026/2027)

Germany offers vital Social Policy programs examining public policies addressing societal issues and improving human welfare through English-taught curricula exploring design, implementation, and impact of policies on health, education, housing, and social security at institutions like Hertie School Berlin and University of Bremen's SOCIUM Research Center. Students analyze how policies are formulated, roles of governments and NGOs, and effectiveness of different welfare systems, studying Germany's pioneering social insurance model from Bismarck's reforms to modern challenges balancing generous benefits with fiscal sustainability in Europe's largest welfare state spending €1 trillion annually on social protection. Programs integrate sociology, economics, and political science, equipping students with skills to analyze and influence policy-making through case studies of Germany's universal healthcare, free education, housing policies, and integration programs for Europe's largest refugee population, while collaborating with Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, welfare associations, and think tanks like Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
