The Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, established in 1954 as Germany's first film school, is a specialized public university with 800 students. It is located at the historic Babelsberg Studios complex in Potsdam, 30 minutes from Berlin. This small, highly selective institution offers bachelor's and master's programs in directing, cinematography, editing, screenwriting, production, animation, sound design, and film music. Admission is through competitive portfolio reviews and practical exams, and the school accepts only 3-5% of applicants, making it one of the most selective film schools in Germany, alongside Munich's HFF.
