Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) is a public research university located in the cities of Halle and Wittenberg, Germany. It was founded in 1502 and is one of the oldest universities in Germany, with a rich history spanning over 500 years. The university was formed in 1817 by the merger of the University of Wittenberg (founded in 1502) and the University of Halle (founded in 1694). MLU currently has approximately 20,000 students enrolled in its various faculties and departments. The university's main campus is in Halle, while the Leucorea Foundation in Wittenberg serves as MLU's conference centre and hotel for seminars, academic conferences and political events. The centrally located University Square in Halle is considered one of the most beautiful university squares in Europe, offering a blend of historic architecture and modern facilities. The Weinberg Campus, the second largest technology park in eastern Germany, houses all of the university's science institutes.

MLU offers a wide range of academic subjects in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and medicine. The university is renowned for its strong focus on research and its interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning.
