University of Technology Nuremberg (UTN) (2026/27)

The University of Technology Nuremberg (UTN) is one of Germany's youngest universities – and one of its most exciting. Founded in 2021 as the first new state university in Bavaria in over four decades, UTN was created with a rare opportunity: to rethink what a university can be, free from the constraints of long-established structures. The result is an institution built from the ground up around interdisciplinarity, digital-first teaching, and a strong focus on artificial intelligence and its role in society.

What sets UTN apart is how it connects disciplines. Technology is never taught in isolation here: computer science and AI meet the humanities and social sciences, and students are encouraged to think about how intelligent systems shape people, organizations, and society.

What sets UTN apart is how it connects disciplines. Technology is never taught in isolation here: computer science and AI meet the humanities and social sciences, and students are encouraged to think about how intelligent systems shape people, organizations, and society. All degree programs are taught entirely in English, attracting an international community of students and researchers to Nuremberg.

Studying at UTN also means learning differently. The university's research-based Active Learning design replaces anonymous lecture halls with small learning groups, hands-on assignments, and regular individual feedback from professors – supported by one of the best supervision ratios in Germany. Instead of cramming for a single final exam, students build their skills and their grades continuously throughout the semester.

All of this happens in Nuremberg, Bavaria's second-largest city and a true hidden champion: a strong regional economy with diverse career opportunities meets a high quality of life in the heart of a dynamic metropolitan region. For students who want to help shape a young, ambitious university rather than simply pass through an old one, UTN is a unique place to study.
