Regensburg: International Programs with Admission Restriction — Numerus Clausus/NC (2026/27)

Regensburg offers international students a remarkable setting: one of Europe's best-preserved medieval cities combined with a vibrant, youthful university culture. This UNESCO World Heritage city along the Danube features ancient Roman foundations, Gothic masterpieces, and winding cobblestone streets that survived World War II unscathed. The University of Regensburg, with strengths in medicine, law, business, and humanities, anchors an academic community of around 35,000 students—nearly 20% of the city's population. The intimate old town, centred on the magnificent Gothic cathedral and the 12th-century Stone Bridge, provides an inspiring backdrop unlike any other German university city.

Regensburg is renowned for having Germany's highest density of bars, creating a legendary nightlife scene amid centuries-old architecture—Italian-style courtyards come alive on summer evenings. Living costs remain notably lower than in Munich, just 90 minutes away by train, allowing for a comfortable student lifestyle. The surrounding Bavarian countryside, including the Altmühltal Nature Park, offers easy escapes into nature. For international students seeking academic excellence in a setting of extraordinary beauty, where medieval charm meets dynamic student life, Regensburg stands out as one of Germany's most compelling university cities.
