Geothermal Energy Numerus Clausus

Geothermal Energy Programs in Germany with Admission Restriction - Numerus Clausus/NC (2026/27)

Overview Deadlines

Geothermal Energy programs in Germany offer international students the chance to master renewable energy extraction in one of Europe’s most promising geothermal landscapes, with hotspots in the Rhine Graben and Bavarian Molasse Basin driving Germany’s transition away from fossil fuels. These English-taught programs integrate geology, engineering, and thermodynamics, training students to model subsurface heat flow, design geothermal power plants and district heating systems, and assess risks such as induced seismicity. Hands-on experience comes through partnerships with pioneering projects like Munich’s geothermal district heating network supplying 300,000 residents and Landau’s geothermal power plant, alongside collaborations with drilling companies and research institutes advancing safer, more efficient closed-loop systems.

Most Selective Geothermal Energy Programs

For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
