Studying Medicine in Germany with the goal to become a consultant physician is a bit of a special case in the German education system: That is, among other things, because this course of study is not integrated into the Bachelor and Master system. Students looking to become medical doctors finish their studies with a state examination, and to finish this course, excellent German skills are necessary. International Students looking to become a medical doctor in Germany therefore have it a bit rough if they are not fluent in German.

Still, not only doctors but all kinds of medical professions and expertise are in high demand in Germany’s ageing society. With just under 50 English-language scientific Master’s programs offered in the field of Medicine in Germany, there are some great options for international students interested in Medicine - even if they do not lead to an approbation to practice as a physician. Thematically, the Master’s programs address questions of public health and how information technology can be used in medicine and biology or they teach students to research certain fields, such as medical biology or cardiovascular science. These programs can also be a great option to take a break in your doctoral training and broaden your knowledge and horizon if you are a student looking to become a medical doctor elsewhere in the world.
