The Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg (HfJS), also known as the Heidelberg University of Jewish Studies, is a unique private institution of higher education founded in 1979 by the Central Council of Jews in Germany. As Europe's largest centre for Jewish Studies, the HfJS is a dynamic centre for scholarly discussion encompassing all facets of Jewish religion, history, culture and society. The HfJS is situated in the historic city of Heidelberg, Germany, and works in close collaboration with the renowned University of Heidelberg. The campus environment fosters a personal atmosphere and offers students a well-equipped library, active Hebrew language practice, and a vibrant cultural and religious life beyond their daily studies. With approximately 200 students, the HfJS offers an intimate and engaging academic experience.

The HfJS offers a wide range of academic programmes, including Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Jewish Studies, Jewish Civilisations, Medieval Studies and Jewish Museology, among others. The university is particularly renowned for its strong language training in biblical, rabbinical and modern Hebrew, as well as Hebrew-script languages such as Yiddish and Judeo-Arabic. In addition, the HfJS offers a PhD programme in Jewish Studies in cooperation with the University of Heidelberg.
