The Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is a public research university in the city of Mainz, Germany. It was founded in 1477 and is one of the oldest universities in Germany. Following its re-establishment in 1946, it has grown to become one of the largest universities in the country, with over 32,000 students.
