About the University

The Hochschule Kaiserslautern, also known as the University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern or HS Kaiserslautern, is a public university of applied sciences founded in 1971. With approximately 6,200 students, it is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The University has three campuses located in Kaiserslautern, Pirmasens, and Zweibrücken, offering students a diverse range of learning environments. The Kaiserslautern campus, which serves as the university's headquarters, is split between Morlauter Street and Schoenstraße, with plans to consolidate the campus at the former site of the Kammgarnspinnerei. The Pirmasens campus, the smallest of the three, specialises in the departments of Applied Logistics and Polymer Sciences. The Zweibrücken campus, founded in 1994 on a former US military base, focuses on the departments of Business Administration and Computer Sciences/Microsystems Technology, with a unique American-style design.

HS Kaiserslautern offers a wide array of innovative Bachelor's, Master's, and vocational training programs in fields such as Life and Engineering Sciences, Design, Business Studies, IT, and Communications. The university prides itself on its practice-oriented, interdisciplinary, and flexible study courses, with a strong emphasis on internationalisation through student and professor exchanges with more than 150 partner universities worldwide. The university is committed to application-oriented research and development, often in collaboration with local businesses, serving as a valuable partner to the regional economy. It also supports various projects funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to ensure high-quality teaching and bridge the gap between professional practice and university education.

With its rich history spanning over 160 years in engineering education, the Hochschule Kaiserslautern continues to provide students with a modern, globally-oriented education that prepares them for successful careers in an increasingly interconnected world.
