Study Social Sciences in Germany (2026/27)

Germany offers international students a dynamic social sciences education where critical analysis meets global perspectives, with many programmes taught in English and designed to explore contemporary issues through both European and international lenses. The emphasis on comparative approaches and intercultural understanding enables students to analyse social phenomena from multiple cultural viewpoints while benefiting from Germany's position at the crossroads of European social thought and global developments. Curricula combine classical social theory with contemporary research methods, allowing students to investigate pressing topics like migration, sustainability and digital transformation in both local and international contexts.

Numerus Clausus (Admission Restriction)

For degree courses with a numerus clausus, part of the study places are allocated according to the grade point average (GPA) of the previous degree. Selection is generally based on how many applicants apply for a place. The higher the grade, the more difficult it is to get onto the course. The German grading system ranges from 1.0 (very good) to 6.0 (unsatisfactory).
