Studying Media and Communication Management in one of Germany’s international and interdisciplinary Master’s programs provides an ideal opportunity for students looking to pragmatic research questions. English-language programs in this field of studies deal with the intersection of communication and design, media engineering, or information technology. Topics such as Communication Design as well as Digital Media and its role in business, society, and politics are covered topics. The programs offered frequently combine theory with project phases and creative elements.

It is noteworthy that Germany has some private higher education institutions specializing in the field of media and communications, such as the Hochschule Makromedia or the HMKW in Berlin. These schools offer interesting and specialized programs in the field of Media Studies and Journalism and provide excellent learning environments. On the other hand, private universities charge tuition fees and thus, around one third of the programs offered in English in this field charge annual fees.

With our Study Finder you can decide if one of the private universities is the right match for you or rather one of the cutting-edge programs offered by public universities.

Application Requirements

When you apply to a Master’s program in Germany, universities will usually expect you to have an academic degree in a related discipline. Because Media and Communication Management rely on interdisciplinary ways of working, students from broad backgrounds are accepted. Since the English-language programs offered in this field are very diverse and often highly specialized, it is recommendable to check the exact degree requirements for each program. Private universities are often more lenient when it comes to accepting non-related first academic degrees. For most programs, entrance tests or interviews are not part of the admission process, however, some universities may require practical journalistic experience or a portfolio of previous works. In addition to standard certificates (e.g. first degree certificate, a transcript of records, a language certificate), a CV and a letter of motivation are typically required.
