Semitic Studies: Top International Study Programs in Germany (2026/2027)

Semitic Studies is the academic field dedicated to the study of Semitic languages, a branch of the Afroasiatic language family that includes Arabic, Hebrew, Aramaic, Amharic, and ancient languages such as Akkadian and Ugaritic. The discipline explores the history, structure, and development of these languages while situating them within their broader cultural, religious, and historical contexts. Students and researchers engage in areas such as comparative linguistics, philology, and epigraphy, analyzing ancient inscriptions and manuscripts to trace linguistic evolution, as well as studying modern Semitic languages to understand their ongoing transformations.
