International Religious Studies Programs in Germany without Admission Restriction / NC-Free (2026/27)

Germany offers international students an exceptional opportunity to study Religious Studies in a nation renowned for theological scholarship and religious reform, where centuries of religious thought from Luther's Reformation to contemporary interfaith dialogue provide rich contexts for understanding religion's role in society, culture, and politics. Pursuing Religious Studies in Germany means accessing world-renowned programs at institutions like the University of Heidelberg's Faculty of Theology, Humboldt University Berlin's Institute for the Scientific Study of Religion, and the University of Tübingen—where influential theologians like Hans Küng shaped modern religious discourse—learning from a country whose religious landscape encompasses established churches, growing Muslim communities, and increasing secularization. German universities deliver comprehensive Religious Studies curricula that integrate comparative religion, philosophy of religion, and sociology of religion with specialized tracks in Christian theology, Islamic studies, Jewish studies, and Eastern religions, while Germany's unique church-state relationship and religious education in public schools provide distinctive perspectives on religion's public role.
