About the University
The Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin (HTW Berlin), also known as the University of Applied Sciences Berlin, is the largest university of applied sciences in Berlin, Germany. It was founded in 1994 and currently has around 14,000 students. The HTW Berlin has two main campuses: the Treskowallee campus in Berlin-Karlshorst and the Wilhelminenhof campus in Berlin-Oberschöneweide, located directly on the River Spree. The Treskowallee campus consists of seminar buildings, a canteen, a library and sports halls on the site of a former secondary school. The Wilhelminenhof campus is a former industrial complex that has been transformed into a modern science location.
The university offers more than 70 study programmes in the fields of technology, computer science, business, law, culture and design. Subjects range from classic disciplines such as mechanical engineering and business administration to innovative programmes such as facility management, economic policy and game design. HTW Berlin offers Bachelor's, Master's and dual study options, with some Master's programmes taught in English.
HTW Berlin is known for its practice-oriented education and strong partnerships with industry. The university consistently receives good ratings in rankings, with numerous programmes appearing in the top rankings published by Wirtschaftswoche magazine. In the 2023 edition of the Wirtschaftswoche ranking, HTW Berlin's business administration, computer science and industrial engineering programmes were ranked first in Germany.
Research is a core focus at HTW Berlin, with over 150 externally funded research projects carried out annually in collaboration with industry partners. The university's research agenda covers a range of topics, including climate-friendly energy supply, advanced health research, digital and creative industries, and the preservation of cultural heritage. Notable alumni of the HTW Berlin include Erik Möller, a German freelance journalist and former deputy director of the Wikimedia Foundation.
