About the University

Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) is one of the largest technical universities in Germany and is among the leading and most dynamic universities in Germany. As a university with 18 faculties in five Schools, TUD offers a broad variety of 121 degree courses and covers a wide research spectrum in the Research Priority Areas (RPAs) Health Sciences, Biomedicine & Bioengineering, Information Technology & Microelectronics, Smart Materials & Structures, Energy, Mobility & Environment as well as Culture & Societal Change.

Since 2012, TUD has been one of eleven ‚ÄúUniversities of Excellence‚ÄĚ. Its core elements are the Institutional Strategy ‚ÄúThe Synergetic University‚ÄĚ. TUD stands for values such as tolerance and cosmopolitanism and expresses these regularly, publicly and visibly. As of 1 November 2019, TU Dresden will receive permanent funding within the framework of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments.

Steeped in Tradition
TUD has a long tradition and vast experience in research and teaching: It was founded in 1828 as a ‚ÄúTechnische Bildungsanstalt‚ÄĚ and obtained the status of a university in 1961. Since 1990, TUD experienced a rapid development towards being a university with a broad range of courses.
